Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes our policy with respect to our collection and use of personal information of users of, and visitors to, the Site.  In order to become a User, you must read and accept this Privacy Policy, as well as the User Agreement (“Agreement”).  In the event of any inconsistency between this Privacy Policy and the Agreement, the Agreement will prevail.  Except as expressly set forth in the Agreement, nothing in this Privacy Policy will be deemed to confer any third-party rights or benefits.  If you do not wish to accept this Privacy Policy, you may not use or access the Jurafide.com Services.  The meaning of all undefined terms in this Privacy Policy is set forth in the Agreement.

1.           Collection of User Information

We collect User-submitted information such as names and e-mail addresses to authenticate Users and to correspond with those Users with respect to the Jurafide.com Services.  We also collect other User-submitted profile information, including, but not limited to, physical addresses, phone numbers, educational history, and bar admissions, in order to assist members in finding and communicating with each other.  In addition, we collect each User’s submission history with respect to resources and other materials, and each member’s history of transactions with other members.  We also may collect information about Users from other sources, such as periodicals, blogs, and other Users of the Jurafide.com Services through the ordinary course of our business, in order to provide Users with more useful information and customized services.

We also log non-personally-identifiable information, including IP addresses, profile information, aggregate User data, and browser types, from Users of and visitors to the Site.  These data are used to manage the Site, track usage, and improve the Jurafide.com Services.  This non-personally-identifiable information may be shared with third-parties to provide more relevant services and advertisements to members.  User IP addresses are also recorded for security purposes.  No such information will be used to reveal Users’ personal details.

2.            Use of User Information

A member’s public profile is displayed to other members in order to facilitate member interaction in the Jurafide.com community.  Subject to Section 9 below, a member’s nonpublic profile is not disclosed to other Users or members, and is viewable only by our select personnel.  A member may review and edit his or her public or nonpublic profile at his or her "Profile Edit" page at any time.  E-mail addresses are used for the purposes of correspondence (including, but limited to, updates, newsletters, or news) with Users related to the Jurafide.com Services.  Otherwise, a User’s email address is not shared with or displayed to other parties, subject to Section 9 below.  We may use Users’ personal information without identifying them individually for our and/or or third parties’ purposes, such as analyzing aggregate data or personalizing advertisements and promotions.

The Site also collects and uses personally identifiable contact information of individuals other than Users for the following limited purposes:  (i) as provided to us from time to time by Users registered as “lawyers” in order to confirm certain information about their legal practices and (ii) as provided to us from time to time by Users registered as “lawyers” in order to conduct screening tests required for premium membership.  Non-Users may contact us to request their contact information be removed from our database.

The Site uses cookies to store visitors’ preferences and to record session information to, among other things, ensure that visitors are not repeatedly offered the same advertisements and to customize our newsletters, advertising, and Content based on the browser type and User profile information.  We do not link the information we store in cookies to any personally identifiable information that any User submits at the Site.  A User may be able to configure his or her browser to accept or reject all or some cookies, or notify him or her when a cookie is set; however, a User must enable cookies from the Site in order to use most functions on the Site.  Please note that we allow third-party advertisers that present advertisements at the Site to set and access their cookies on Users’ computers.  Advertisers’ use of cookies is subject to their own privacy policies, not this Privacy Policy.

The Site contains links to other websites.  We are not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices of other websites.  When linking to another website a User should read the privacy policy stated on that website.  Our privacy policy only governs information collected at the Site.

6.          Third-Party Advertising

Advertisements appearing at the Site may be delivered to Users by Jurafide.com or one of our advertising partners, including Google AdSense.  Our advertising partners may set cookies.  These cookies allow the advertising partners’ servers to recognize a User’s computers each time they send the User an online advertisement.  In this way, the servers may compile information about where a User, or others who use the User’s computer, saw their advertisements and determine on which advertisements the User or others click.  This information allows an advertiser to deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to the User.  This Privacy Policy covers use of cookies by the Site and does not cover the use of cookies by any advertisers.

7.      Security

Jurafide.com member accounts are secured by member-created passwords.  We take reasonable precautions to insure that member account information is kept private.  We use reasonable measures to protect member information that is stored within our database and to restrict access to member information to those employees who need access to perform their job functions, such as our customer service personnel and technical staff.  Please note that we cannot guarantee the security of member account information. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors may compromise the security of member information at any time.

8.           Deactivation

If a User asks us to delete his or her Jurafide.com account, in most cases the account will be deactivated and then deleted from our User database in approximately 90 days.  This delay is necessary to discourage Users from engaging in fraudulent activity.  Please note that any information that we have copied may remain in back-up storage for some period of time after your deletion request.  This may be the case even though no information about your account remains in our active User databases.

Except as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy, we will not disclose personal information to any third party unless we believe that such disclosure is necessary: (i) to comply with legal requirements or to respond to a subpoena, search warrant, or other legal process received by us, whether or not a response is required by applicable law; (ii) to enforce the Agreement or to protect our rights; or (iii) to protect the safety of members of the public and our Users.  We reserve the right to transfer personal information to a successor in interest that acquires rights to that information as a result of the sale of Jurafide.com or substantially all of its assets to that successor in interest.

10.        Changes in Our Privacy Policy

From time to time we may make changes to this Privacy Policy.  If we make changes, we will post them at the Site to make Users aware of the changes so Users will always be aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and when we may disclose it.  A User is bound by any minor changes to this Privacy Policy when he or she uses the Site after those changes have been posted.  If the manner of our use of Users’ personally identifiable information is to change materially, we will notify them by posting a notice at the Site for at least 30 days or by emailing them directly at the addresses provided to us.
